Island Inspired: Local Breakfast Plate in Hawaii

Aloha!  Let's imagine that today we are in Hawaii.  Sure, you all are probably questioning my sanity with all this pretend island mumbo-jumbo...although it IS warming up's still chilly and the snow is still lingering on the sidewalks.  Being my first Spring in Alberta, I feel that things are just not happening with Mother Nature fast enough for my liking - I want to wear my sandals, Capri's, and flippy-floppies!!  In order to escape my arctic-like reality, I have recreated on of our favorite breakfasts while in Hawaii.

S & I  had the chance to visit Honolulu this past August.  It was our first visit to a "tropical" climate - you know, palm trees, coconut trees, peace lilies that grow OUTSIDE - not on the countertops and desktops in office cubicles.....

and hibiscus......

and birds of paradise.....

and gum trees!!!

The scenic Pali Outlook.

It's windy there, FYI.

Now, if you're going to Hawaii, at some point you're gonna have SPAM.  Love it, or leave it - it just tastes better on the island!!  If it has PERFECT GRILL MARKS, then the voices in your head will be so happy (again, I know, you're questioning my sanity!).  Alongside plain, white, steamed rice and scrambled eggs - this is the "local breakfast".

I took the liberty of adding some fresh sliced fruit:  pineapple, mango, and orange slices.  I also mixed up a tropical juice to have along with our Kona coffee:  orange-pineapple-cranberry juice, garnished with an orange slice.

Here, Notch & Duke are still giving us the burst-into-flames stare, as we had to board them for our 2 week vacation....they are still not over it.  There's nothing like a terrier & a fat cat scorned!

What You Will Need To Make a Local Breakfast Plate:

steamed white rice
scrambled eggs (not pictured - I forgot zem, whoopsie!)
fresh sliced fruits native to Hawaii (pineapple, mango, etc)
fruit juice
chopsticks (optional)
soy sauce for rice (optional)
beach blanket used as a tablecloth (optional-and totally not psychotic)

Either use this as a guide, or make it your own....but do not dis the SPAM, eggs, and rice until you've tried it - especially with fresh pineapple!
